IRAQI INTERNATIONAL MARATHON AND BAGHDAD RACE
TERMS OF REFERENCE
A. Position Title: Coordinator of the International Marathon in Erbil
B. Kind of job : Part time job
C. Duration: 01/02/2011 to 30/10/2011
D. Location: Erbil
E. Main Duties:
1. Forming the organizing committee with coverage of the roles set in Paris ,and coordinating its meetings .
2. Presenting the project to local authorities and advertising it with civil society and sport groups all over the country.
3. Fundraising with institutions and private sponsors.
4. Coordinating the implementation of the marathon in Erbil with all its steps: before, during and after the marathon and according to the work plan agreed below.
5. Reporting biweekly on the progress of the implementation
6. Staying in contact by Skype and Email with the main reference.

1 Forming the organizing committee The presence in the committee of one or more representatives of the Olympic Committee to monitor the technical aspects is desirable. Develop with the committee: the social and political message of the marathon (e.g. for nonviolence, peace and human rights, for a new Iraq…); ethical standards to look for sponsors (e.g. companies that do not violate human rights or cause environmental destruction, local institutions only for specific budget lines of the project…).

2 Presenting the project to local authorities: Within 5 March
3 Establishing an hypothesis of the route The final route will be completely closed to traffic on the Marathon day.

4 Organizing a proposal for hotel reception of outsiders You must provide three options: economic, media, high budget.

5 Receiving confirmation of authorization for the marathon from the authorities within April 30
6 Defining the route, regulations, the place to store the bags and the program of races ( marathon, km. 10, km. 2, marathon relay): within April 30
7 Communicating the event to organizations schools, civil society organizations, sports teams, etc..) across the country within May 31
8 Collecting subscriptions for teams of volunteers volunteers that will help before and during the race day, and for the reception/accompaniment of Iraqi and international guests: within June 30
9 Finding the place to establish the Marathon Village within June 30
10 Organizing a general visit to the place with all those involved within July 15
11 Forming teams of volunteers within July 30
12 Collecting organizational material water and salts for refreshments, T-shirts and gadget, awards, etc..) within August 30

15 Fundraising look for financial resources, from public authorities, foundations and private sponsors! You can offer sponsors to put their logo on t-shirts and on the poster of the event. Respect the ethical standards fixed with the organizing committee

1 Forming a working group to organize the race Since the very beginning the Baghdad coordinator will be in touch with the Erbil coordinator and the national organizing committee. The race in Baghdad will have the same slogans and a similar poster of the race in Erbil, since it’s part of the same event. The coordinator in Baghdad will manage in autonomy the financial resources he collects for the local race, but will inform the national organizing committee of all available funds.
