Iraqi Nonviolence Group does not support any specific electoral list or group and asks for a free and honest development of the elections, without any violence.
In the past few days, the candidates for the elections of Iraqi Parliament started their campaigns; elections will start on 7th March 2010 in all Iraq.
Even though the declarations from the High Independent Commission for the elections and the observer organizations state that the campaign is taking place normally, everyday reality shows episodes of violence, accusations and the use of improper methods that in our opinion give rise to anger. For this reason we call all groups participating to the elections to run their campaigns in peaceful and nonviolent ways, according to the directions of the High Independent Commission for the elections, so that the electoral process can take place in a democratic way and reflect the voters’ opinion.
We call voters from inside and outside Iraq to make use of their voting rights and to participate to the elections with total freedom. We are convinced that the future parliament will have to solve many pending issues and attend to other important duties.
As Iraqi Nonviolence Group, that consists of many civil society organizations, unions, associations and individuals from Iraq and the region of Kurdistan, we also state that we do not have any candidates for the parliamentary elections, and we do not support any specific list or group. We treat all parties involved in the elections on the same level.
Yes to free and honest elections
No to violence and fraud
